Dong Energy is due to carry out site surveys on two potential drilling prospects in the West of Shetlands region commencing later this year and continuing through to early 2013.

Dong has sought permits for VSP surveys – vertical seismic profiles – over the Glenrothes prospect in block 208/11 and Cragganmore in block 208/17.

Work is to start in mid to late October at Cragganmore, continuing through until the end of January, and the survey at Glenrothes is due to commence in November, with a completion date also at the end of January next year.

GDF Suez E&P UK has also applied at the start of this month for permission from the UK's Department of Energy and Climate Change for another VSP survey over block 30/13a on the Josephine field area which is due to commence on 14 September, and also ending next January.

And Shell UK is planning a 2D site survey on the Commander prospect, in block 22/30a. This was scheduled to have started by now, and to complete by the end of October.

Previously Hydrocarbon Resources submitted an application to DECC for a geophysical borehole survey over the Rhyl gas field in block 113/27b in the Eastern Irish Sea, which was approved in the middle of last month.

Nexen is planning surveys over the Ivy and Cales prospects, covering blocks 21/2a, 3a, 3b, and 3f, which were also due to take five days each, ending in November. Additionally Nexen has notified DECC of its intent to conduct a magnetic survey over the Lily prospect in block 20/1, with a five-day duration ending in November.

Maersk has sought a permit for a 2D site survey over the Rothesay prospect in block 15/19c, and another over the Brochel prospect in block 15/18a – both of which were due to complete by the end of August.

At the start of this month Taqa applied for a pemit from DECC to carry out a survey over the Darwin prospect, in block 211/27a, using Schlumberger for the work.
