Fairlead first for Captain
Engineering and maintenance contractor RBG has completed a first on Chevron's Captain FPSO in the UK North Sea.
Working as a sub-contractor to Acergy, RBG provided diving services and project support under a £400,000 contract, using rigid-hulled inflation boat to install subsea rigging, and an ROV, as part of a project to remove and replace a fairlead on the FPSO.
“We are delighted to have been involved in this project, especially as it is the first of its kind on the Captain FPSO,” said Calum Buchanan, marine and subsea services director for RBG.
Paul Jamieson, subsea engineering co-ordinator for Chevron, said a problem was first identified with the fairlead during an ROV inspection in April last year leading to a decision to replace it. “Many thought it couldn’t be done,” said Jamieson.
Nevertheless the project to replace the fairlead was successfully completed. “The team managed to engineer, plan and execute multiple vessel-based ROV, diving and FPSO-orientated campaigns to get us to this point. All activities have been completed injury free and without impact to production,” Jamieson added.
