African explorer Aminex has temporarily suspended data gathering on a seismic shoot in shallow water offshore Tanzania which has been hit by bad weather.

Aminex reported today that it has reached agreement with seismic contractors to suspend work on a 335 kilometre (210 mile) survey over a transition zone in the Nyuni area licence offshore Tanzania where rough weather has interrupted progress.

So far, the company says it has obtained full-fold data covering 141 km – 42% of the survey area, using ocean bottom cabling.

“In recent weeks the survey has experienced downtime due to rough seas in the shallow waters of the transition zone as a result of seasonal weather,” Aminex reports “To reduce downtime costs and ensure optimum data quality Aminex has reached a mutual agreement with the seismic contractors to suspend temporarily the survey until late October when survey work in the transition zone is expected to resume.”

Meanwhile the company is holding further talks over acquiring more conventional 2D data over the deepwater sector of the Nyuni licence area, which together with the shallow water data will fulfil its requirement to obtain at least 800 km of seismic data in the Nyuni area.

Both surveys are designed to image stratigraphic plays which have been successfully explored in deepwater offshore Tanzania and northern Mozambique.
Aminex operates the Nyuni area through Ndovu Resources with 70% equity, partnered by RAK GAS Commission with 25% and  Bounty Oil and Gas with 5%.
