Norway's Kvaerner has captured more work on the concrete platform for ExxonMobil's Hebron development offshore Newfoundland and Labrador in Canada worth between US $125 and $150 million.
After executing a Front End Engineering and Design study in a 50/50 joint venture with Canada's Peter Kiewit Infrastructure, Kvaerner has been awarded by Hebron operator ExxonMobil the next phase of work which is for detailed engineering, procurement and construction of a new Hebron platform.
The new platform will be designed as a gravity based structure and build by the joint venture on an EPC basis.
Discovered in 1981, Hebron is thought to contain between 400 and 700 million barrels of recoverable oil reserves, and it is located 9 kilometres (5.6 miles) north of the Terra Nova project, 32 km (20 miles) southeast of the Hibernia development, and 46 km (29 miles) from the White Rose facility, in a water depth of 92 metres (300 feet).
