Ntorya misses target
Minority partner Solo Oil reports that the Ntorya 1 well in Tanzania has failed to hit a sandstone reservoir at the target depth.
Solo said the Ntorya 1 well which is operated by Aminex through Ndovu Resources in the onshore section of the Rovuma Basin in Tanzania and which spudded on 22 December is now at a depth of 2,500 metres (8,200 feet). Sandstone reservoirs were not encountered as expected between 1,800 and 1,900 metres (5,900 – 6,232 ft), Solo Oil indicated today.
But sandstones have been encountered deeper in the well from 2,300 (7,544 ft) down to the current depth, where minor gas shows have been encountered.
“Wireline logs and a seismic check-shot survey are now being recorded in order to evaluate the section already drilled and to determine if additional drilling is worthwhile,” London-listed Solo said.
Ntorya 1 is seeking to test base Tertiary and Upper Cretaceous sands found in the previous Likonde well drilled 14 kilometres (8.75 miles) to the north.
Solo has 18.75% equity in the Ntorya 1 well, which is being operated by Aminex with 56.25% and Tullow Oil holds the remaining 25% equity.
