Shut in at Foinaven
BP has been forced to shut down at its first ever UK deepwater development in the west of Shetlands region after a pipeline crack was discovered near the Foinaven field.
According to Dow Jones newswires the leak was identified on Sunday and production was immediately shut down and the leak was stopped.
An inspection by an ROV confirmed the pipeline leak 50 minutes later, a BP spokesman told the news service.
No oil is reported to be visible on the sea surface.
Foinaven came onstream in 2000 and BP operates the field with 70%, parthnered by Mareathon Oil.
