Songa Delta approved for new Wintershall well
Semi-submersible Songa Delta has been approved to drill a new exploration well offshore Norway by the Norwegian Petroleum Safety Authority.
The new drilling permit is for Wintershall Norge to drill the 35/9-7 well in PL 418 in a water depth of 377 metres (1,236 feet).
At the end of last month the company spudded the Maria appraisal well 6407/1-5S in PL 475 BS aiming to prove up estimated reserves already estimated at between 60 and 120 million barrels of recoverable oil plus between 2 and 5 billion cubic metres of gas.
“The results will help the Maria partnership to decide on the optimum development concept for Maria - either a subsea tieback or a standalone development,” declared Maria project manager Hugo Dijkgraaf as drilling got underway.
