Technip will be responsible for the major subsea construction work on the UK North Sea Greater Stella Area development after landing a major deal with operator Ithaca Energy.

Development of the Stella and Harrier fields will involve Technip taking responsibility for installation of a main 33 kilometre(20 mile) 10-inch oil export line and a 63 km (39 mile) 10-inch gas export line from the Greater Stella Area field centre.

Also Technip will install manifolds, structures at a Stella main drill centre and at a northern drill centre, and put in place spoolpieces and undertake flexible pipelaying.

Additionally the contract workscope covers installation of a mooring system – for the FPF  1 floating production facility -  as well as design and installation of a five slot midwater arch.

From the Stella field area, liquids will be exported via the 33 km oil export line into GAEL – the Graben Area Export Line southern spur line near the Shearwater field, which feeds into the Forties Pipeline System.

Gas from the 63 km Stella gas line will feed into CATS trunkline.

Flexible flowlines will be manufactured at Technip's spoolbase in Le Trait, France., while the Evanton Spoolbase, near Inverness, will fabricate the linepipe, while Technip's umbilicals manufacturer DUCO, in Newcastle, will supply the umbilicals.

Two Technip vessels, Skandi Arctic and the Wellservicer, will execute the offshore construction campaign.

Stella and Harrier are due to come onstream in the first half next year.

Bill Morrice, managing director of Technip in the UK pointed out that Ithaca is a new client for the company. “The UK North Sea is still an exciting place to be, with opportunities in all areas including the Inspection, Repair and Maintenance (IRM) and West of Shetland markets. This particular award is evidence of the high level of activity around traditional developments and we look forward to supporting Ithaca Energy (UK) to bring the GSA hub onstream,” he said.
