Statoil has marked a major milestone with one of its significant Norwegian offshore projects this year with the installation of the huge steel jacket for the Valemon development.

Heerema's crane barge Thialf lifted the 9,000 tonnes 160 metre tall steel jacket into place on 18 June.

Built by Heerema Fabrication Group in Vlissingen, the steel jacket will support a gas and condensate process deck, which will export rich gas production via a new pipeline and into existing infrastructure to the Huldra platform and from there to Heimdal for processing. Condensate will be exported from Valemon to the ørn platform to be stabilisedand from there output will go via the Troll  oil pipeline to the Mongstad onshore terminal.

Overall, the project represents a NOK 20 billion (US $3.36 bn) investment by Statoil and its partners in the platform, pipelines and production wells.

Valemon is to  facilitate further in the Tampen and Heimdal areas, according to Ivar Aasheim, Statol's head of field development on the Norwegian Continental Shelf.

Øystein Michelsen, Statoil's executive vice president for E&P Norway points out: “The Heimdal platform in particular depends on new gas volumes to extend its commercial life,” he says, adding: “Valemon’s contribution will make it possible to exploit other gas reserves in the area.”

Statoil submitted a Plan for Development and Operation for the Valemon field to Norway's Ministry of Petroleum and Energy in October 2010 and the field is due to come onstream in 2014.

Statoil operates the Valemon devleopment with 64.275%, partnered by Petoro with 30%, Enterprise Oil – owned by Shell - with 3.225%, and Total with 2.5%.
