Wind farm consent to trigger new contracts
Warwick Energy has said the consent for its Dudgeon Offshore Wind Farm will trigger further contracts.
Back in May Warwick Energy indicated its preference for ABB as the electrical contractor for the project, which is one of the three main bid packages for the offshore development.
Previously Warwick Energy has issued invitations to tender for a total of three main contract packages, covering wind turbines, foundation and electrical works. A short list of suppliers has been drawn up for each of these.
“It is hoped that preferred contractors for the two other main packages will be announced during 2012, ahead of contract signings in 2013,” the wind energy developer has said.
Offshore work at Dudgeon – which is a 35 square kilometre site – comprises an offshore substation, interconnection cables and main export cables to a landfall at Weybourne Hope, Norfolk, which together will account for up to 90% of the project cost.
“This is a major step forward for the project, the offshore wind industry and for the UK economy’ said Mark Petterson, project director for Warwick, as the consent for the development under Section 36 of the 1990 Electricity was granted. “We hope to receive the remaining consent, for an onshore substation, soon to allow construction work for this major piece of infrastructure to start next year,” Petterson said.
Warwick Energy, based in the sleepy Warwickshire village of Wellesbourne, near Coventry in the UK Midlands, aims to have the wind farm operational by 2015, through Dudgeon Offshore Wind Limited.
